Summer Youth Session 1
July 6 – 10, 2026
Each summer, Colaisde na Gàidhlig welcomes students from around the world for an immersive and multidisciplinary learning experience. Designed for ages 5–18, our Summer School offers the chance to explore the rich traditions of Nova Scotia Gaels through music, dance, language, and craft.
Join us for a week—or two—of hands-on learning, whether as a day student or by staying on campus. Focus on a single discipline or mix and match to discover new skills. With five engaging classes per day, you’ll be amazed at how much you can learn in just one week!

Arrival and Check In
Students staying on campus arrive Sunday evening between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM for registration and room assignments.
If you have a roommate preference, please indicate it during registration.
Please note that we have two different bedtimes for youth:
-
Ages 5 to 9: 9:00 PM
-
Ages 10 to 18: 10:00 PM
This can be tricky when students of different ages share a room, so please keep this in mind.
Supper is not provided on Sunday evening, but a light snack will be available. Students will have time to settle in, meet house parents during youth weeks, connect with staff and fellow students, and get comfortable before bed.
Campus lights out is 10:30 PM.
What to Bring
Students must bring:
-
Their own bedding
-
Towels
-
Their instrument in good working condition
Keyboards are provided. A limited number of chanters are available to borrow. Fiddles are available through our fiddle loan program for $15 per week.
Bringing your own bedding helps us with a quick and smooth changeover between sessions. Thank you for your help with this.
Daily Schedule
Monday Morning
Breakfast is served from 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM.
Day students may register between 8:00 AM and 8:30 AM.
At 8:45 AM, all students gather in the Great Hall of the Clans for a welcome session, instructor introductions, and an overview of the week. Classes begin at 9:00 AM.
We follow a similar schedule each morning.
Class Structure
-
Five classes per day
-
Each class is 50 minutes
Morning break: 10:50 AM to 11:10 AM
Lunch: 12:00 PM
Classes end: 3:20 PM
Day student pick up: 3:20 PM
Students choose the classes and levels that best suit their interests and experience. While there may be limited flexibility to switch classes once the session begins, some classes do fill to capacity, which means changes cannot always be guaranteed. We encourage families to carefully consider the level selected, as well as the student’s age, experience, and readiness to fully participate.
Age recommendations:
- Fiddle: 6+
-
Piping: 8+ (due to hand size and instrument demands)
-
Weaving: 8+
Choosing the right fit from the start helps ensure a positive and successful week for everyone.
Evening Activities
Evenings may include jam sessions, games, ceilidhs, outdoor activities, and more.
Friday Wrap Up
On Friday afternoon, students will have two shortened classes followed by a big square set to celebrate the week.
Parents are welcome to arrive at 3:00 PM.
The official end time is 3:30 PM.
