Toiseach-Tòiseachaidh: The First Step

Come to Colaisde na Gàidhlig for a week in August to dive into your Gaelic learning by hearing and speaking the language every day! This is an intensive opportunity to be immersed in Scottish Gaelic for new beginners.

This program might be for you if:

  • You have taken a short Gaelic course but don’t feel comfortable speaking
  • You have never taken a Gaelic class
  • You have dabbled a bit with self-directed learning like Duolingo

This program will use the Gàidhlig Aig Baile method of instruction. The focus will be on listening, understanding and repeating, using to body language, actions, objects and pictures to aid in comprehension. By learning through activities, students will associate Gaelic words directly with actions and objects, rather than translating. The aim is to learn in a fun, relaxed environment with plenty of laughter!

This program will also include opportunities to experience the music, dance, history and culture of the Scottish Gaels in Nova Scotia!

Tuition fee:

  • $350: This fee includes instruction for two weeks, evening activities and lunches.

Students can live on or off campus. 

  • On campus accommodations consists of rooms with an ensuite bathroom. All students in the building will share a kitchenette with a fridge, microwave and kettle. Our cafeteria staff will provide breakfasts, lunches and suppers in nearby MacKenzie Hall.

Fee for live-in accommodations and meals:

  • Private room: $425
  • Shared room: $350
  • Meals: $260
