Ceum Air Adhart: A Step Forward

Come to Colaisde na Gàidhlig for two weeks in May to kick up your Gaelic learning by hearing and speaking the language every day! This is an intensive opportunity to be immersed in Scottish Gaelic for advanced beginners.

This program might be for you if:

  • You have taken our beginner Gaelic course online and you want to practice what you’ve learned
  • You have taken an equivalent course (~84 hour of instruction)
  • You have studied Gaelic before and want to get back into it after a hiatus
  • You can have simple conversations and want to improve

This program will include:

  • The option to attend 2 Wednesday Night Cèilidhs by local musicians
  • 28 hours of classroom instruction
  • 2 excursions to communities in Cape Breton where participants will explore the history and culture of the Gaels
  • Facilitated social activities in Gaelic

This program will use the Gàidhlig Aig Baile method of instruction. The focus will be on listening, understanding and repeating, using to body language, actions, objects and pictures to aid in comprehension. By learning through activities, students will associate Gaelic words directly with actions and objects, rather than translating. The aim is to learn in a fun, relaxed environment with plenty of laughter! There will be an expectation that students use only Gaelic while in public spaces on the Gaelic College campus, even outside of class time.

Tuition fee:

  • $750: This fee includes instruction for two weeks, evening activities and lunches.

Students can live on or off campus.

  • On campus accommodations consists of a private room with an ensuite bathroom. All students in the building will share a kitchenette with a fridge, microwave, hot plate, air fryer and kettle. Our cafeteria staff will provide breakfasts and suppers in nearby MacKenzie Hall.
