Carol Ann MacDougall

Piano Accompaniment

Carol Ann MacDougall is a well respected music teacher from the Sydney area of Cape Breton. Coming from a musical family, a love of music was fostered from an early age. She began playing piano at age 4, studied under Dr. Dorothy Griffith Sutherland; and went on to earn a B.A. in Music from St. F.X. University with majors in Piano and Education; as well as a Diploma in Guidance from Cape Breton University. She also plays bass, guitar, ukulele, and organ. As a valued volunteer in the local community, Carol Ann is in charge of Music Ministry for St. Mary’s Parish, East Bay, playing each Sunday; as well as at nursing homes, concerts, and various fund raising events. She taught music in the elementary schools for 35 years retiring in 2015; and has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Nova Scotia Music Educators Association. Besides teaching at the Gaelic College, she teaches piano privately and is a member of the Cape Breton Fiddlers Association. Carol Ann is married to Redmond MacDougall and together they have three musical children. She is looking forward to spending time at the Gaelic College.
