Janine Lespérance
Highland Dance
Already a step dancer and fiddler, Janine started highland dancing at age 12, following in her two sisters’ footsteps. She hasn’t looked back since. She is a champion dancer and competed extensively in Canada, the USA, and Scotland. She has qualified for the adult World Highland Dancing Championship finals, and been a provincial representative at the Canadian Championships for four provinces: Ontario, Québec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia. She has shared her passion for dancing in countless performances, including at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, Ottawa’s CityFolk festival, and the Celtic Colours International Festival. She performs original choreography with Change of Step highland dance company, of which she is a founding member. She also loves to teach dance, and is a Member of the British Association of Teachers of Dance. Outside of dance, Janine is a lawyer. She currently lives in Fredericton, New Brunswick, and spends her free time teaching her exuberant dog to do the Seann Triubhas. She is looking forward to teaching human dancers at the Gaelic College this summer, a place she has many fond memories of, as a former youth attendee and instructor.
