Gaelic Language
Adam Dahmer (aka Àdhamh Dàmaireach) hails originally from Louisville, KY, but learned Scottish Gaelic while working on his PhD in Celtic Studies at the University of Edinburgh. He now lives in Calgary, Alberta – the hometown of his wife, Dhanya Baird, whom he met in Scotland as a fellow Celtic Studies PhD student. Adam loves the Scottish Gaelic language, and has been working to promote it in North America since his return in 2020. He and Dhanya are the founders and directors of SPLANG! (an organization dedicated to organizing Gaelic events in Kentucky and elsewhere in the southern United States), and he works independently for several organizations as a Gaelic instructor, including Sgoil Gàidhlig Bhaile an Taigh Mhòr, in Baltimore, Maryland; East Tennessee State University, in Johnson City, Tennessee; the St. Andrew-Caledonian Society in Calgary, Alberta; and Colaisde na Gàidhlig, here in Nova Scotia.
