Adam Young

Piano Accompaniment

Adam Young is a sought-after pianist from the community of French Road. His mother is a former stepdance and square dance instructor, and both of his grandfathers played the fiddle. His maternal grandparents’ first language was Gaelic, and although he is not a fluent speaker himself, he studied Gaelic in university, becoming one of the first people to graduate from the University College of Cape Breton with a degree in Celtic Studies. He is the creator and director of Nova Scotia’s longest-running music and comedy revue, Cape Breton Lyrics & Laughter, which has seen close to 400 performances. He has showcased his talents in Scotland and Ireland, across Canada and in the United States. He has been nominated for both Nova Scotia and East Coast Music Awards for recordings with fiddler Dara Smith-MacDonald. His new project, Yearbook, features tunes he wrote during a daily tunewriting challenge in 2018.
