Janine first started learning highland dancing steps from watching her two sisters dance. She began lessons herself at the age of 12, and has stayed involved with highland dancing ever since. She is a champion dancer who competed extensively in Canada, the USA, and Scotland, including as a representative for Nova Scotia at the Canadian Interprovincial Championships, and as a finalist at the World Championships. A non-competitive highlight for her was being a cast member of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Scotland; and she is part of the recently-formed performance group Change of Step. Janine loves teaching dancing, both traditional highland and choreography, and tends to take dancing wherever she goes; while in South America, she even taught a few highland lessons in Spanish. Apart from highland, she has also been a fiddler and a step-dancer since a young age. She greatly enjoyed learning at the Gaelic College as a youth, and this will be her third summer returning as an instructor. She currently lives in Ottawa.
