Daibhidh MacFhraing / David Rankin is a fluent Gaelic speaker, stepdancer, musician, emcee, and teacher from Mabou. David is the Director of School Operations at Colaisde na Gàidhlig.
He completed his Bachelor of Arts in Celtic Studies in 2014, and his Bachelor of Education in 2016 with concentration in Gaelic Language and Visual Arts. He has taught Gaelic at Colaisde na Gàidhlig, in adult community classes in Antigonish, as well as elementary, middle and high school levels for practicum placements at Bayview Education Centre (Port Hood) and Dr. JH Gillis Regional High School (Antigonish).
David is a stepdancer, stepdance instructor, and a member of the performing dance group Fileanta. He has taught stepdance at home as well as in Scotland at Seachdain Alasdair Friseil (Sabhal Mór Ostaig) and at Féis an Earraich (Portree, Isle of Skye).
David is also a capable guitar player, and he accompanies Cape Breton fiddlers and pipers in concerts and céilidhs around the island.
