David Rankin (Daibhidh mac Iuid ‘ic Iain Ghilleasbuig Aonghais Dheirg) is a Gaelic speaker, stepdancer, singer, musician, emcee, and educator from Mabou. This will be his fifth year working in the School Office at Colaisde na Gàidhlig. He will also be graduating this year from the Bachelor of Education program at St. F.X. with concentration in Gaelic language and Art. David’s passion for Gaelic has been well supported throughout his life, his immediate and extended families include a growing number of fluent Gaelic speakers and learners. Additionally, throughout grade school and university he has taken every opportunity to learn.
He completed his Bachelor of Arts in Celtic Studies in 2014, and has taught Gaelic here at the Gaelic College, in adult community classes in Antigonish, as well as middle, elementary and high school levels for practicum placements at Bayview Education Centre (Port Hood) and Dr. JH Gillis Regional High School (Antigonish).
David is a stepdancer, stepdance instructor, and a member of the performing dance group Fileanta. He has had the privilege of teaching stepdance at home as well as in Scotland at Alasdair Fraser’s Fiddle Week (Sabhal Mór Ostaig) and at Féis an Earraich (Portree, Isle of Skye).
