Master Weavers Program

I, II, & III

In association with Alberta’s Olds College, Colaisde na Gàidhlig is proud to offer Master Weavers Certificate Programs on-site in St. Ann’s, Cape Breton. It consists of five progressive levels of classroom and independent study involving skill development, research studies and project assignments, and provides an educational environment in which an individual can acquire the skill to become a weaver with higher understanding of the craft. The first 4 levels include 5 consecutive days (30 hours) of a face-to-face workshop, followed by 100-150 hours of independent study on homework assignments. The final year is work on a thesis and doesn’t include classroom time.

Students should be experienced weavers, are expected to be able to warp a loom independently at the outset of the class, and be conversant with basic weaving language and tools. Independent weaving experience is essential. Levels 2-5 require the previous level's class and homework to be completed. Each level builds off of the previous skill developments and will be offered in the coming years.
