Highland Dance

Janice Macquarrie, a former champion Highland dancer began her dance career in Antigonish, Nova Scotia at age nine. She competed for fourteen years then after receiving her teaching certificate went on to train a great number of dancers in her area. Many of her students have won major awards including Nova Scotia, Canadian and North American titles as well as first and second runner-up positions in World championships. Janice is also an award-winning choreographer. She was co-founder of the Scotia Highland Dancers performance troupe and in 2013, she was lead choreographer for the Basel Tattoo in Switzerland which included dancers from South Africa, Scotland and Canada.

Janice holds her Fellow certificate with the Scottish Dance Teachers’ Alliance and is a full panel adjudicator with the Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing. She has enjoyed judging and giving workshops throughout Canada as well as Scotland, Australia, New Zealand and the United States.

Janice is a retired school teacher but continues to run her dance school in Antigonish.
