Eilidh MacKenzie is from the Isle of Skye, Scotland, with a close family connection to Cape Breton. Her background is in traditional music and she studied clàrsach and piano at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. There, she joined Gaelic folk band Dòchas, with whom she performed and toured extensively. 

She has many years of experience as an educator of music and art, tutoring at all levels from pre-school to university, and is also a school teacher in Gaelic Medium primary education on the Isle of Skye.
