Douglas Cameron

Fiddle / Piano Accompaniment

Douglas Cameron is a talented young fiddler from Belle Cote in northern Inverness County. He is the son of Cape Breton piano player, Lawrence Cameron. From a young age, Douglas has been surrounded by music. He began performing on the piano at the age of five. At age nine, he started playing the fiddle and has been playing ever since. Douglas was influenced by the music of many great fiddlers including Buddy MacMaster. He has studied with musicians such as Bonnie Jean MacDonald, Andrea Beaton, and Dawn and Margie Beaton. Douglas had not been playing long before he started to gain attention for his mature, traditional fiddle style. Famed Cape Breton performer, J.P. Cormier is among the musicians that have taken an interest in Douglas Cameron’s music. Cormier worked with the young fiddler as he recorded his debut, self-titled CD, which was released in 2010. Douglas was fifteen years old at the time. Over the years, Douglas Cameron has been a popular player for ceilidhs and dances throughout Cape Breton. His public performances include the Celtic Colours International Festival and a Showcase Performance for the East Coast Music Awards.
