Catherine Davison
Weaving

Inspired by her family ties to Washabuck, Cape Breton, Catherine Davison has always felt drawn to Gaelic culture. She attended the Gaelic College for 9 years as a student, frequenting the weaving centre with teachers such as Marie MacDonald and Diane Quimby, as well as step dancing and piano accompaniment lessons. Catherine is currently pursuing a HBA in Anthropology and a minor in Music from the University of Victoria in British Columbia, and hopes to continue studying the importance of Gaelic culture to Nova Scotians. She has had the opportunity to work at the cultural center Baile nan Gàidheal – Highland Village as a student archivist and a cultural interpreter, which has allowed her to strengthen her connection to the island community. In her first year at the college, she hopes to spread passion for weaving and Gaelic culture through the program that sparked her own cultural journey.
