Màiri’s love of the Gaelic language and culture was nurtured from the age of five through the Fèis movement in her home town of Edinburgh, Scotland. As a teenager she spent much of her summer time in the Hebrides, visiting and staying with native Gaelic speakers, before going on to graduate with an undergraduate MA and postgraduate MSc in Celtic Studies from the University of Edinburgh. Màiri loves sharing her passion for Gaelic culture with both children and adults. As well as teaching the language, Màiri also step dances, sings in Gaelic and plays the clàrsach. She has worked with young people through Gaelic-medium after-school programmes and numerous Fèisean in Scotland, and teaches adults at workshops and summer courses in Scotland, Ireland, the USA and Canada. She recently moved to Antigonish to teach Gaelic at St Francis Xavier University and is delighted to participate in the exciting rejuvenation of Gaelic in Nova Scotia!
