The Gaelic College in St. Ann's will be conducting its’ March Break Workshop beginning Friday, March 9th.. Registration is Friday evening and classes will run on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

This session is for Children and Youth Only (Ages 5 - 18)

- DAY STUDENTS Ages 5-18 (Tuition & Meals) $221.00

Live-in students receive an evening meal from 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm the Friday of registration (March 9th)
Course Level Guidelines
The following are the levels offered in each course for 2012 March Break.
GAELIC SONG: G5 New Beginner – no experience necessary; G4 Advanced Beginner – can understand and say simple sentences, such as common greetings and expressions.
BAGPIPES: BP5 New Beginner – no experience necessary; BP4 Advanced Beginner – beginning to blow on pipes, have learned fundamentals (doublings, triplets, grips, burls), basic sight reading skill; BP3 Intermediate – on pipes for 1 or 2 years, ability to play several tunes by memory, *Limited number of practice chanters available.
FIDDLE: F5 New Beginner - no experience necessary, F4 Advanced Beginner - should be able to play tunes at a slow to moderate pace, F3 Intermediate - have a good knowledge of tunes in the common major and minor keys, be able to play tunes at a moderate pace; F2 Advanced - have the ability to read music fairly well and be able to play almost at full tempo. F1 –can play all types of Cape Breton style tunes in most keys.
STEP DANCE: S5 New Beginner – beginner who has no training ; S3 Intermediate - confidence in 5 strathspeys, 5 reels and 3 or 4 jig steps. S2 Advanced Learning to enhance their repertoire.
GAB IMMERSION: GAB 1 - Beginner level. Learning is completely oral and Gaelic will be the only language employed in the classroom. GAB 2 is available to students once they are able to comfortably carry on simple conversation about day-to-day matters, combines reading and writing with oral learning and practice to deepen and broaden knowledge and ability. Gaelic will be the only language employed in the classroom.
PIANO ACCOMPANIMENT: P5 New Beginner – No experience necessary. P4 Advanced Beginner - teaches basic chord patterns and techniques, P3 Intermediate - builds on the basic chord patterns and rhythms from P4. while refining basic rhythms and introducing the fundamental playing techniques for Cape Breton piano accompaniment.
CAPE BRETON GUITAR ACCOMPANIMENT- CBG4 Advanced Beginner - teaches basic chord patterns and techniques, CBG3 Intermediate - builds on the basic chord patterns and rhythms from CBG4 while refining basic rhythms and introducing the fundamental playing techniques for Cape Breton guitar accompaniment.
GAELIC DRAMA: No experience necessary, only energy and enthusiasm are required. Children and youth will learn a short play during the course of their March Break stay. The goal of this course is to provide students with an opportunity to acquire theatrical skills through the medium of Gaelic.
GAELIC CULTURAL INTEGRATION: This new class is perhaps the most relevant of all disciplines. It presents an opportunity to learn and become aware of how the Gaelic language is, and needs to be, an integral part of all other disciplines taught at the Gaelic College. All students will participate in this essential discipline.
HIGHLAND DANCE – H5 Beginner: No experience necessary; H4: Has taken lessons through the year, knows 2 dances in full; H3 (Novice): Five dances required for this level; H2 (Intermediate): Should have knowledge of more than 5 dances.

After filling out the form and clicking the "Submit" button, you will be directed to the Gaelic College Craft Shop, where a $40.00 (Canadian) deposit is required. After fthe deposit is completed on our Secure Server, a receipt with be sent to you via e-mail.

If you are not registering via the online registration combined with an online payment, you can choose to Email your application. To do this, please download the March Break Workshop Application Form below. You would fill it out on your computer, save the file to your Desktop and attach it to an email which would then be sent to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. PLEASE NOTE: Do not place any credit card information on the form if you are emailing or faxing it to us. (Email or Fax is not secure for payment information.) Credit card payments must be phoned in to (902) 295-3411, if you are emailing or faxing your registration form. Also please note, if you have chosen the Online Registration method, our secure server will process your credit card payment and there is then no need to call payment information in to A'Cholaisde Ghàidhlig / The Gaelic College.
